In case you haven’t heard… Shyanne’s chemo finished up! While there were no balloons or confetti falling from the ceiling we were celebrating all the same.
It was a bittersweet moment to hear that last bag start beeping. I don’t know how I thought it would go but I didn’t expect it to happen as she was sitting on her potty being serenaded… lol. She was so happy and we were all celebrating so it was fun… it’ll be a funny story to tell later.
Now the question is ‘What’s next?’. I know that just because her chemo is finished it doesn’t mean we’re through with this journey. I know there’ll be more doctor visits (at least weekly to start) and frequent blood work to monitor for any recurrence. It’ll take her little body a while to recover from all of this but I know she’ll get there! It might take the rest of us a while to recover as well because this has been quite and emotional journey.
I asked Dr. Bill about getting her central line out and he said they can take it out after her counts recover!!! Yay!! I’m so glad she had it for treatment but I’ll be glad to see it go too!
The doctors stopped her antibiotics for now. When her numbers get low they will start her Levaquin again but hopefully she won’t need the other anymore. Her diarrhea started after the antibiotics started and now that they are off it seems to be clearing up.
They also mixed up some Magic Butt Paste for her sore bottom. It works great! I don’t know the exact recipe they used but I had gotten the stuff together to make this one and it is similar, if not the same.
I believe they didn’t have A&D and they used Nystatin in place of the Clotrimazole but it has worked amazingly well!
She’s had to get morphine a couple of times for her pain. We discussed the continuous morphine but they held off as she did well with some small doses. We will just keep monitoring her and maybe with her bottom healing up she won’t be so miserable now. If she seems to be in more pain we can always start it up later on.
She received a beautiful quilt and pillowcase yesterday. I forgot to snap a picture but Sissy got one. I don’t know who donated it but thank you so much!
We had a nice visit with Daddy too. Shyanne was so happy to see him. She was super excited when he mentioned home and didn’t understand that she couldn’t go yet. She kept watching the door after he left… just waiting for him to come back.
For now we’ll just keep hanging out until her counts drop and then recover again. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers! We love you all!
